BRIDGEWATER’S SMART CITY AWARD WIN

The Town of Bridgewater was declared the winner of Infrastructure Canada's Smart Cities Challenge and received the $5 million prize money for its Energy Poverty Reduction Program, designed to reduce energy poverty among its residents by 20% over the next five years.

The Smart Cities Challenge is a pan-Canadian competition open to all municipalities, local or regional governments, and Indigenous communities. The goal is to empower communities to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data, and connected technology.

Bridgewater’s Energy Poverty Reduction Program is diverse, with initiatives that will make homes more energy efficient, help residents own and sell renewable energy, reduce costs and increase accessibility for public transportation, and improve community services. Managing director at Roswall Development, Daniel Roscoe, was a consultant to the Energize Bridgewater Team and worked in partnership with the town’s Energy and Financing Work Group and over 30 project partners to develop the program.
